Nivea Lip Care Pearl & Shine

Nivea Lip Care Pearl & Shine

Nivea Lip Care Pearl & Shine

I was very excited to test this product, as I am a huge fan of some of Nivea’s other lip care products.  Not only that, but I was looking forward to a product that would not only moisturise my lips, but give them a pretty pink colour.  Unfortunately, my excitement was short lived and I was left feeling slightly disappointed.  However, there are also a number of positives to mention.

The product is packaged in a lipstick style stick with a twisting lid. It is easy to use, whilst the protective lid remains firmly on the stick when not in use. Despite being small in size, it is a very long lasting lip balm.  I’ve had it for a number of months now and it has not lost any of its moisture.

Since this product markets itself as being predominantly a lip balm, I expected it to provide a good level of both moisture and protection, but instead found that unless I used Blistex prior to applying the balm, my lips were left feeling quite dry.

The pink colour of the balm is very pretty and can be very flattering.  Having said that, if your lips are dry, it can look very unattractive as your lips can be left looking a little washed out.  You may find, like I did, that applying a warmer pink gloss over the balm produces nice results.

You can buy this balm from Boots in the shop or online for just £2.29 in Boots. At this price, I think this balm is a reasonable purchase as it’s adaptable, has a nice colour, and is packaged nicely.

Overall, I feel that the balm, as a stand-alone product, does not meet Nivea’s usually high standards and can make the lips appear too dry and pale.  However, when combined with other products, such as a moisture base before the balm, or a gloss after the balm, it can provide good results.

St.Moritz Instant Self Tanning Mousse

St.Moritz Instant Self Tanning Mousse

St.Moritz Instant Self Tanning Mousse

Before I tried the St.Moritz tanning mousse, I spent a considerable amount on either spray tans in a salon or St.Tropez self-application tan and being a poor student, it could not justify spending such an extortionate amount on looking tanned. I first purchased the tan in a cheap cosmetics shop in Cardiff for £3 after it was recommended to me by a ‘tannaholic’ friend. Admittedly I was very dubious about this product at first, but all my preconceptions were soon erased.

The St.Moritz tanning mousse is available in a 200ml bottle with a pump, which will last for 2/3 months, if used a couple of times a week. It is worth noting that the tan will begin to discolour if kept for longer than 4 months, which is quicker than other brands such as Soltan Beautiful Bronze Wash off Airbrush Bronzer, however I consider £9 a year for a tan to be a healthy investment.

The mousse is available in two shades – light and dark, making your choice very simple. I would recommend the light shade for the majority of skin tones for a subtle tan, however for a more glamorous look the dark shade will give an instant deeper tan. You will see results immediately, however the tan will be fully developed within 3 hours. For best results, the mousse is best applied after exfoliating and with a tanning mit such as ‘boots own’, smoothing in the tan in firm circular movements. I would not recommend applying the tan to your face, I normally use bronzer to match the colour of my face with my neck.

The tan surprisingly dries on your skin very quickly, no longer than 10 minutes and leaves the skin feeling soft and unaffected. I often find many tanning products to have a rather unpleasant aroma, however this mousse if barely scented.

This product will last for upto a week, but can prove difficult to remove. This can be prevented if you moisturise your skin every day and leave the tan to gradually fade away. It is best to re-apply the tan once the previous application has been removed.

The advantages of the St.Moritz tanning mousse:

  • The price
  • Subtle fragrance
  • Instant results
  • Ease of application
  • Quality of colour

The dis-advantages of the St.Moritz tanning mousse:

  • Difficult to remove
  • Durability

It cannot be denied that this product is good value for the money and for £3 the quality surpassed all of my expectations. It is provides a nice even coverage, has a subtle scent and provides an instant tan. One problem is that the colour will run onto clothing and bedding, but can easily be removed with one wash.

Argan oil ultra hydrating body lotion by Body Drench

Argan oil ultra hydrating body lotion by Body Drench

During the winter, I often find that my skin becomes very dry and scaly and I have tried a number of different body moisturisers such as….. to try and prevent ‘winter skin’.

I will be reviewing the body moisturiser that is packaged in a 236ml bottle with a lock pump, however it is also available in an oil form, which can also be used on hair and nails and packaged in an 8oz spray bottle. I must admit I have not tried the spray, however if the lotion were an indication of the quality, I would not hesitate to purchase the spray. At first glance, the bottle looks small and I was worried it would not last for long, however it is very deceiving and its life span is around 2/3 months if applied frugally every day.

Being an Argan based lotion, the presence of Argan in the aroma is quite prominent, however there are subtle notes of grapefruit, which softens the scent and creates a very subtle, but delicious smelling moisturiser. I sometimes find the scent of some moisturisers too strong such as the sweet scent of the Johnson’s cocoa butter moisturiser that becomes almost sickly after time. The aroma of this moisturiser is long lasting, but will not overpower other products such as perfume and hair products.

The lotion is best applied after a hot shower/bath as this is when the pores of the skin will be open and in need of moisture and it is also a great product to apply before bedtime as it will hydrate your skin overnight and protect the skin from moisture when in the shower/bath.

The Argan oil ultra hydrating body lotion by body drench is priced at around £8.99 from , which may seem steep for the size of the bottle, however it is well worth the money and will leave your skin feeling soft and hydrated after every use.

The main advantages with this product are:

  • It absorbs into the skin quickly (within approx. 2 mins)
  • It goes on and spreads smoothly
  • It is long lasting
  • It moisturises very well
  • It is not greasy
  • It smells great
  • It softens skin
  • Great value for money
