If the sun is shining and we have a few days to spare, my family and I will always shoot off down to Salcombe where we are lucky enough to have an apartment to stay (shout out to Uncle John) and an old Boston Whaler that we sail across the estuary and use to bob across to Kingsbridge.
The coastal walks, beautiful scenery and secret pubs, which you can only reach by boat, make Salcombe a perfect and relaxing getaway. There are an abundance of independent shops full of trinkets and treasures (where I always spend too much money on bracelets or pieces of wood with a funny saying written on them).
This time I came across Will Bees Bespoke, a great shop based towards the far end of Salcombe on the harbour.
From the moment I entered this gorgeous workshop I was transfixed on the restored roof pillars, distressed wood and smell of leather and soon enough my eyes changed focus to a selection of clutch bags which were timeless, modern and elegant. After I wandered round the shop looking at the gorgeous handbags, large totes made from recycled US Mail sacks and heart shaped leather key rings; the inspired nature of this shop clearly had a story and so I took it upon myself to find out more…
The owner, Will told me how his hobby became his business and how his workshop and retail shop came available faster than expected. His business model is based on having a shortlist of product types that can be made using hundreds of different materials. This offers a huge range of choice and truly bespoke items and it is also worth mentioning all of the products and materials are handcrafted and sourced from England.
Will explained that his inspiration comes from the industrial, leather, vintage style which is traditionally very masculine. He has softened and tailored this style to create female focused products I can only say that this theme runs throughout the range and is executed perfectly. His portfolio is currently focused around women’s products, however he told me of his plans to create I phone and I pad cases, which I think is a great move.
The most lovely thing about the products is that whilst you are waiting, Will, will emboss your initials within the logo so that the product becomes truly unique and personalised.
I am truly jealous of this man, you could not wish for a more heavenly office.
This post is slightly different to my previous posts in that it focuses mostly on a wonderful shop I came across whilst I was away, however it is not only the gorgeous products and setting that I want to share with you, but I thought his story and business strategy was interesting and most of all it made me think how idyllic life can be if you bite the bullet and make a hobby in to your life.
Just got to save up my pennies to buy one of the gorgeous clutches and air mail bags just in time for the summer to show off around Bristol. This final image bares no relevance it just tickled me…
